Following an arson attack on the previous Yaxley Scout & Guide building in 2009, Yaxley Scout and Guide Group have effectively been homeless for three years. Since then the Group in conjunction with the local community and the support of the Parish Council have been looking to help build a bigger and better base for both local and national Scout & Guide activities.

GKL Group have been working with the Yaxley Scout and Guide Council as well as local architects, David Turnock Architects since 2010 to develop a scheme for a new centre that meets their operational requirements and fits within their budget.

James Brackenbury from GKL Group went onto say “This building is an important addition to the local community, not just the local Scouts & Guides and it is excellent to see things moving towards the construction phase of the project after a lot of hard work following the unfortunate events back in 2009. We hope to move swiftly through our part of the project in delivering what will be a fabulous new facility for Yaxley Scouts & Guides and the wider community”.

After two years of close collaboration the final scheme has been achieved and works are due to commence in September, which should see the new building completed by the end of the year.

Please see some of the architect’s drawings as part of the final scheme; dependant on funding the project has a proposed completion date of early 2013.
